Phosphorescent is one-man band Matthew Houck, an artist from Brooklyn, New York (formerly of Athens, Georgia). He released Aw Come, Aw Wry in August 2005 and Pride in October 2007. The latter was named the 12th best album of 2007 by Stylus Magazine and received a 8.0 rating from indie tastemakers Pitchfork Media. Houck plays subdued alt-country that is often compared to Iron and Wine, Will Oldham, and Neil Young. Prior to recording these two albums, Matthew, with the help of The Clairvoyants, recorded "A Hundred Times or More," his full length debut under the name Phosphorescent, and "The Weight of Flight," a short EP released approximately 2 years after his debut. Before recording under the name Phosphorescent, Matthew Houck traveled the world playing under the name Fillup Shack, a name to which the drum recordings on Phosphorescent's debut "A Hundred Times or More" are credited.
